Let us count the reasons to love Austin, Texas: savory barbeque, boundless live music, and unforgettable natural surroundings like Hamilton Pool and Longhorn Caverns, to name a few. And don’t forget to view the more than one million bats that swoop out from beneath Congress Bridge at sunset each evening. South By Southwest (SXSW) is also a major magnet for visitors as an annual film, music and interactive festival attracting people from around the world.

But if you need to work off the slab of ribs you inhaled at dinner last night at the much-adored Franklin Barbeque, consider dropping by Caswell Tennis Center for a few games of tennis. Eight lighted courts are available to the public to rent for a very reasonable rate ($1.50 – $2.75 for 1.5 hours for singles and two hours for doubles and non prime hours and $4 during prime hours).

Prime hours are from 6 p.m. to close (10 p.m.) Monday – Thursday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Lessons and clinics are available for both adults and juniors. Caswell Tennis Center is located at 2312 Shoal Creek Boulevard. Call 512-478-6268 for reservations.

No matter the reason for visiting Austin, check in at Barton Creek Resort and Spa for pampering and a game of tennis. In addition to multiple golf courses and a full-service spa that Conde Nast readers ranked number two for their rejuvenating spa therapies, 11 hard courts will beckon you.

Clinics, private lessons, and ball machines are available for resort guests. Or rent one of the well-maintained courts for $25 per hour. And if you don’t wish to deal with packing your racquet on a plane, simply borrow one for free from the pro shop. The one drawback to staying at Barton Creek is that you might not ever want to leave the resort’s property and explore the city.
