Ranked by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 cities to visit in 2014, Chicago caters to most any interest and taste—from cheering on the cursed Cubs at Wrigley Field, to moving to the beats of your favorite band at Lollapalooza or Blues Fest and marveling at the latest installations featured at world-class museums.

But between attending a comedy show at The Second City—which helped launch the careers of such legends as Bill Murray, Steven Colbert, and Tina Fey—and perusing the sculptures of Millennial Park, squeeze in a tennis match to work off those Wrigley Field hot dogs and soft pretzels. A visit to the Windy City, whether for business or vacation, is no excuse to allow dust to gather on your tennis skills. Chicago offers a range of tennis courts and clubs conveniently located near some of the city’s top attractions.

Cubs Game and a Tennis Match

Before catching a Cubs game, head over to Humboldt Park for some tennis, conveniently located less than six miles from the stadium. In addition to housing three tennis courts, the 219-acre park features jogging paths, a beach, lagoons, soccer fields, playgrounds, gardens and more to entertain visitors for hours. The three tennis courts are located at 1350 N. California Avenue and are maintained by the Chicago Park District. Find out if additional tennis courts are located in other parks of interest around the city.

Tennis Courts Near The Second City

Tennis on the Lake is your one-stop-shop for gearing up to hit the courts while visiting Chicago. In addition to free public courts, the pro shop offers $10 racquet rentals and ball rentals so you don’t have to tote your own gear through airports. The friendly staff is also willing to offer pro-rated deals on customized clinics and lessons (so that you don’t pay for a full month when you’re only in town for the week). In addition to being accommodating, the tennis facilities are less than four miles from The Second City comedy club and also near the Chicago History Museum.
